RELATIONSHIP STATUS IT’S COMPLICATED: but simple to us
FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK
Time For Bed, it is simple, soothing, rhymy, and it allows me to make up my own lines and my daughter finds it hilarious if I read it in an over the top Long Island Accent.
HOW DO YOU COMBINE WORK AND FAMILY?
I must say, the combination of work and family for us is at times as simple as a walk in the park and other times can be as complex as the equation solved by Will Hunting. Lately with our little girl now in daycare 2 days a week it seems to have taken a considerable amount of pressure off of my wife who runs her business from home and now doesn’t have to schedule business calls either around nap times or once I get home from work. All in all and although unavoidable we do try to not combine work and family through a meticulous logistics plan that gives all 3 of us time alone, daughter mommy time, daughter daddy time, daddy mommy time and altogether time, and sometimes it actually works.
HOW HAS PARENTING CHANGED YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL?
It has made me a more responsible person yet at the same time has allowed me to get incredibly silly at times.
HOW HAS PARENTING AFFECTED YOUR RELATIONSHIP?
As mentioned our relationship is complicated and being parents doesn’t have anything to do with it. Having a child however has schooled us on how to communicate to each other a little better.
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AS A PARENT AND WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?
Strengths, I’m awesome at making her laugh and playing with her but I suck at discipline and keeping her on a schedule.
WHAT ARE YOUR PARTNER’S STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES?
My wife is child-knowledgeable and the strength that stands out the most is her 7th sense, “ the mommy sense”, to know exactly what the kid needs at any given moment. It honestly amazes me. Her big weakness is that she doubts her parenting abilities too much when in fact she is an amazing MOM.
WHAT IS YOUR WORST PARENTING MOMENT?
Let’s just say it involves MY dog eating my wife’s dried placenta pills. I don’t even want to explain.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST PARENTING MOMENT?
Talking Tom is a free app for your iPhone, It is a cartoon Cat that repeats everything you say in an amazingly annoying high pitch voice, you can tickle him, punch him stomp his foot, pet him, etc. It will drive you crazy after a few minutes but our daughter loves it. Not only does she love it but it would calm her down as long as she was holding my phone so that she could talk to it tickle it…
I was lying down in our daughter’s bed trying to get her to sleep after she had threw a little fit and I decided to let her have some talking Tom time. Myself also being tired decided to rest my eyes for a split second when BAM! Ahhh I screamed, I got hit square in the mouth with something that made a high pitched smacking sound followed by a high pitched Ahhh ! My daughter laughed hysterically followed by talking tom laughing hysterically, but you know in a high pitched voice of course, This is the point I realized that my kid smashed my in the mouth with my phone. “I’m bleeding”I said, Tom: (high pitched) I’m Bleeding,, “you chipped my tooth”Tom: “you chipped my tooth” Daughter: ha ha a ha ha ha Tom: ha ha a ha ha ha etc.
$300 later my tooth was fixed, my fat lip was healing and Talking Tom was Exiled from my phone. Why is this not my Worst Parenting moment you ask? I’ll tell you, take the pain the blood the chipped tooth and dentist bill away and I’m left with a memory of my girl laughing at a 1 in zillion occurrence that only her and I share that still cracks me up when I think about it. Also I can’t wait to embarrass her in the future with it.
