Exactly one year ago today, on July 18, 2011, we began publishing the ‘profiles’, or stories, of moms and dads from around the world.
We are tremendously grateful to all the parents who have so generously shared their lives with our readers, and the world. Together, they tell the tale of today’s families.
Families that include (as we noted on Thanksgiving), “….a splendid mix of cultural backgrounds, of religious and racial complexity, and of educational, political and economic diversity.” Families where, “the title of ‘head of household’ is based on choice rather than gender,” and where the roles of both moms and dads continue to evolve.
“No matter the variety of backgrounds or cultures, or how the labor is split within each house, the parents presented on the Parent du Jour are working hard towards a common goal: to provide the best possible lives for their families.”
We are grateful to all the parents who have contributed to the project so far, and we continue to seek contributions.
We will continue to publish until we reach our goal of 365 parents (we’re up to 187, so far).
IF you’re interested in adding your voice to the project, please contact me directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
With love and gratitude,
— Lisa Duggan, Kristin Wald & the entire team at The Parent du Jour
