FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK I’ve always loved Big Dog, Little Dog, by P.D. Eastman. It is such a great book to teach about looking at the big picture and being able to solve your own problems.
HOW DO YOU COMBINE WORK AND FAMILY?
Our kids have been in day care or preschool since about 3 months on. My husband and I both work full-time, and giving up the careers we love was never something we were willing to do. Our children get better age-appropriate activities in an off-site center versus one of us being at home. There’s no way as a stay-at-home mom I could have effectively given two newborns, a 2-year-old, and a 4-year-old what they needed for age-appropriate activities. Daycare/preschool was better for all of us.
HOW HAS PARENTING CHANGED YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL?
I’m definitely more cautious in how I drive and the activities I partake in. Someday I will still get my motorcycle license, but those little beings you have to keep safe are always on my mind.
HOW HAS PARENTING IMPACTED YOUR RELATIONSHIP?
We communicate openly, well, and often. It’s the only way to be able to maintain a healthy relationship in conjunction with effective team parenting.
WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AS A PARENT AND WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?
The things that push my buttons are very different than the things that push my husband’s buttons. This makes parenting as a team much easier!
WHAT ARE YOUR PARTNER’S STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES?
See question above.
WHO ELSE PROVIDES CHILDCARE FOR YOUR CHILDREN?
Our kids will all be school-aged children in a couple of weeks. The last few years, they have been in pre-school and we’ve used the afterschool program at the elementary school.
WHAT IS YOUR WORST PARENTING MOMENT?
I’m sure there have been a few. I do remember one time I found the twins trying to scale furniture at 18 months old. Pretty sure I qualified for the Parent of the Year Award.
WHAT IS YOUR BEST PARENTING MOMENT?
There are so many! Every time I see one of my children being respectful of people, things, or the environment, it makes me smile inside. Knowing that I am helping to create happy, caring children means the world to me.
