FAVORITE CHILDREN’S BOOK   What children’s book is a favorite in your house and why?

It has to be Green Eggs & Ham. I can’t tell you how many times I have read that book. My kids wanted me to read it “fast” because they crack up trying to see me do it.

HOW DO YOU COMBINE WORK AND FAMILY?

I do the best I can. I have been very career focused and am extremely lucky to have married the best mother on the plant who gave up her career to raise our kids. I am very fortunate to work close to my house and have a certain amount of flexibility on my work hours. As such, I have been very lucky to be able to attend tons of my kid’s school activities and am thrilled that I’ve been able to balance work and family.

HOW HAS PARENTING CHANGED YOU AS AN INDIVIDUAL?

It has made me so much more aware of the dangers of the world. I have been quite a thrill seeker in my life. The fact that my kids might try the same things I did, scares the hell out of me.

This fear drove me to invent a product to help keep my kids safe — an app to manage family mobile phone activity. It even has an emergency button that sends out a silent alarm, if my kids are ever in trouble. (*Editor’s Note* Check out Daniel’s product, Famzee, here.)

IF PARTNERED, HOW HAS PARENTING AFFECTED YOUR RELATIONSHIP?

Much more tired now.

Parenting makes you part of a team and my wife and I have embraced that. There is much more passion in all aspects of our relationship now that we are parents. Working as a team has definitely deepened our bond with one another.

WHAT ARE YOUR STRENGTHS AS A PARENT AND WHAT ARE YOUR WEAKNESSES?

My strength is probably the fact that I am still a kid myself. I relate well with my kids and know how to have fun with them. It’s very important to laugh with your family. My weakness is my lack of patience which causes me to yell, sometimes.

IF PARTNERED, WHAT ARE YOUR PARTNER’S STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES?

Not enough space to answer this. She is caring, generous, loving, supportive, empowering, etc… The only weakness I can think of is that she never wants to be the “bad guy”.

WHO ELSE PROVIDES CHILDCARE FOR YOUR CHILDREN?

Even though my parents are now in their eighties they still chip in with babysitting when it is needed most. You will never see more love than how my parents feel for their grandchildren. They are always there to listen or help out.

IS YOURS AN ADOPTIVE FAMILY? AND IF SO, HOW HAS THIS SHAPED YOUR PARENTING?

I was adopted and I believe it shaped my parenting greatly. Parenting is not a birth right but something you earn through hard work and dedication. Just because my DNA streams through my children does not make me a good “dad”.

I have to earn the title just the way my adoptive “dad” did.

WHAT IS YOUR WORST PARENTING MOMENT?

Yikes… do I really want written proof of this…. I guess I have to say that I’m a bit of a screamer and my kids know how to push my buttons, so my worst parenting moments happen…often.

WHAT IS YOUR BEST PARENTING MOMENT?

I can’t think of any one specific moment. I can say that I love the fact that my love and admiration for my kids grows with each day. I am always learning something new about them.

Every day they do something that thrills me and each one is my newest, best parenting moment.
